Scattergood Unit 3 Demolition

The Scattergood Unit 3 Demolition Project was performed for TRC Environmental in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The Unit contained a single 450MW 3-stage Turbine and Generator fed by a high-pressure single pass steam condensing unit. The overall height of the unit was approximately 320 ft. to the top of the single stack, and the top of the boiler was approximately 140 ft. from grade. The overall site was approximately seven acres, of which the plant occupied four. The overall weight of the plant exceeded 10,000 metric tons, owing to its high-pressure characteristics, and much of the dismantlement involved torching heavy-wall sections of pipe and structural iron, sometimes exceeding six inches in thickness.
